Our Story

Valley Veterinary Clinic was founded in 1978 by Dr. Debbie Cosgrove at its original location at 3900 East Main Street. In October 1985, Dr. Darren Woodson, a graduate of Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, purchased the practice from Dr. Cosgrove.

In 1986, Dr. Woodson attended Dr. Margie Alvarez’s graduation from Kansas State University. The two were married the following day and immediately began building their life and veterinary careers together.

In December 1989, Valley Veterinary Clinic moved to its current location at 4390 East Main Street. As the practice continued to grow, a boarding facility was added to the hospital in 1993.

Dr. Woodson and Dr. Alvarez have since retired, but the foundation they established continues to guide Valley Veterinary Clinic today. What began as a one-doctor practice with two staff members has grown into a five-doctor, full-service veterinary hospital supported by a team of approximately 20 dedicated professionals.

Veterinary technology and expectations surrounding pet health have changed significantly over the years. However, our commitment to providing every patient and client with compassionate, professional care has remained constant.

The Valley Vet Experience

In today’s busy world, we value your time as much as you do. We work hard to honor scheduled appointment times while ensuring that you and your pet receive the quality care and personal attention you deserve.

Valley Veterinary Clinic is not a high-volume, “get you in and get you out” practice. Our commitment to client education and preventive healthcare guides what we call The Valley Vet Experience. We take the time to perform a thorough physical examination, discuss your pet’s health, and answer your questions.

Our team will help you understand what is normal for your pet so you can more easily recognize when something may be wrong. We also provide practical education about at-home care, including preventive ear cleaning, oral health, nutrition, and other wellness needs. Our goal is to help you prevent avoidable health problems, reduce long-term veterinary expenses, and give your pet the opportunity to enjoy a longer, healthier life.

Our goal is to welcome every client and patient as part of the Valley Vet family. This has been our mission since we began more than 30 years ago as a small “mom-and-pop” practice, and it remains at the heart of everything we do today.

Our “why” at Valley Veterinary Clinic is simple:

Our Family Serving Your Family.

We strive to provide exceptional customer service and a positive veterinary experience at every visit.

Should you ever have a concern about the service you receive at Valley Veterinary Clinic or the Pet Lodge & Salon, please bring it to the attention of our management team. We value your feedback, carefully consider your concerns, and will make every reasonable effort to resolve any issue affecting you or your pet.
